We saw this trend with AI. Google was innovating a lot of cool stuff but sat on it for too long because they didn't think any other company could do better. ChatGPT was released and they shat their pants and pieced together some tool with a shitty name called Bard in the last min. Apple is by far one of the best hardware companies if not the best. Any predictions on hardware companies that are lying low right now (like OpenAI did) but will blow us away in the next few years? Any big tech co needs to keep innovating no matter how big other wise they'll be replaced, saw this with IBM, HP, Cisco and etc.... TC: Join us and find out. #apple #meta #google
Hardware is a different beast. You can’t “lay low” and suddenly have an industry wide impact like openai did.
Well although I still think Apple is pretty stable, it can get impacted in a short period, esp in mobile. See how HTC and Moto were declined.
They never had attention to details like apple. It’s not an apples innovation that killed them, it’s that they never were obsessed to ship perfect user experience. Apple is not in the business to sell hardware, we sell experience and it’s just happens to be packed in hardware with optimized software.
One advantage with hardware is that it’s not infinitely scalable - so even if some other competitor came about, it would be very hard to scale manufacturing, logistics etc and that gives apple time but also they can probably just buy them out - eg PA Semi .
The way apple goes down if hardware is commoditized by some software that’s apples fear ..
Doubt this would happen, even if such a magical software is created, it still needs to run on some hardware
Nvidia or AMD
lol lay low sure. hardware takes a lot of logistics. not gonna happen overnight
Humane is laying low … But I don’t know if Humane will have that big an impact …
knowing the people they hired i can only laugh
I wonder even they know what they're making
Hardware is HARD!!
Those are the famous words of Pichai. He created an asylum for coasters in the HW teams and the HW teams never delivered anything because their CEO himself thought it is hard and so they never worked hard.
Alright ASIC guru…Hard meaning relative when you compare it to SW. Pixel phone is saying Hi to you. It took Apple decades to get successful in HW and they are #1 for a reason due to being patient enuf in HW development cycle.
The guy that invented fidget spinners
A lot of you think this is impossible. I remember being part of a team that was trying to win blackberry’s business with a cool new SoC. Their execs laughed, saying there is absolutely no need for that much power in a phone and if required, they can introduce it when the time’s right. Apple ate them for lunch with one deft move having zero experience with phones and no in house chip design. Hardware is capital intensive and hard, but a cash flush company like meta can introduce a game changing VR product for example and cause a paradigm shift at any time. Never get complacent when you’re at the top, the only way is down.
