Hey does anyone have any last minute tips for an on-site interview with Amazon? So far I have: Leadership principles STAR Method Come up with good stories Clothes: No suit Chinos and a button up Anything else?
Bring a pee bottle
Ask questions like what are qualities you think make someone a good contributor to your team
Just try and ask some well thought out questions is my best advice!
SDE? Make sure you track time. If the interviewer is going to ask coding questions make sure you have at least 40 minutes. I have seen this too often when the interviewers say on the debrief they didn't have enough time to cover coding, because they spent too much time on intro and LP.
Cloud Infrastructure Architect. Yea I have 45min each round with 6 people. Some singles and some doubles and lunch with an Amazonian!
What happens in those cases - is the interviewee at fault for not asking the interviewer to move ahead with the coding question?
You won't be evaluated on asking good questions about a specific teamz but do ask for your information. LPs are important, you can lose offer because of it. Customer obsession etc.
Yea I'll try to hit as many LPs as possible!
Think out loud. When telling stories distinguish your individual contributions from the team decisions. Interviewer should be able to answer "what did this person specifically do. Why did they do it. and what did it directly impact"
Yea I think that goes along with answering in the STAR format
Prepare to go 1-3 levels down on your star story. Ie clarifying questions or drills are expected. Think in tables answering questions where you need to compare / compute
If it's for cloud architect hen you might hardly get any coding questions. More about concepts relating to the cloud and aws services
Start with customer needs/ use cases first when designing. Do not overdo it if customer does not need extra speed, for example syncing does not have to be instant for some use cases.
Donât worry if it doesnât go well, itâs a sign that god loves you and protects you from Amazon.
Will LinkedIn take me then? :P
If it's a specific team, learn about them and prepare few questions to ask them at the end of each interviews
To add to this, be prepared to have a great answer for "Why Amazon?" and "Why this team?"
