Quitting this Slave life
I noticed this during the recent Google layoff, as I have friends working in Google Canada. They have a massive headquarters here. Yet nobody I know was affected. When I navigate to LinkedIn, I can see dozens of people going on about being laid off from Google, all from the US. I don't think I've personally seen at least one outside that country.
Laws and unions.
Microsoft has laid off folks in Canada. I know folks in vancouver office who got laid off
Extremely bloated
Different worker protection laws in different countries.
Loonie is cheaper than the dollar
Google layoffs outside the US haven’t been announced yet. AFAIK this wave was US only
Saw an article that layoff for international offices are coming. They just started in US first.
No one in Canada has been laid off yet, they will know in February. Read the announcement.
Better to ask why we don't have 21st-century employment laws in the US like our peer nations do.
Are you ok accepting “21st century pay” as well and “21st century taxes” as Canada and EU?
And 21st century healthcare, education, safety and work-life balance? You bet!
I think if many people would be seriously affected by this year layoffs next step is the union.
Union will cut TC significantly
Why? It is not related. It is not like in old movies about Italian mobs and seaport workers.
Yes. High pay
What are they going to do when no one is left who can afford to buy anything
Good question!
