The women seem to have it good. Free party, sex and money. They are getting over.
Nothing about it seems far fetched to me, I’ve heard rumors of the same things. This sort of thing is pretty normal in the burning man community. Now implying that there was something wrong going on just because sex, drugs, and tech money are getting combined, seems incorrect.
The only disturbing thing there was the idea of women who choose not to go to these parties are essentially missing out / shunned. But even that is just an assertion, with no actual anecdote. Was there some female founder who turned down a party and magically lost funding? Surely there must be one specific instance the article could have used if this is so rampant
I have a hard time believing that... You are a woman, and get invited by a VC to his hotel room at 10pm to discuss funding opportunities. Just say no and suggest a better time on the following morning. If you get a cold shoulder after that that, know that the guy was trying to sleep with you. That's all. There's really no mystery here. No exclusive business opportunities that somehow magically materialize at 10 pm in a hotel room.
Seems kinda unlikely to me that the female founders would be pressured into this really heavily. There are endless numbers of gorgeous, open-minded women that would be up for this.
