Hi, Looking for Intel Hillsboro (Etch) vs Intel Mask Operations SC work-life balance and career growth evaluation. Currently working at Intel Hillsboro as a process engineer (PTD) for over 3 years, received a verbal offer from Intel mask operations as a process engineer. I was wondering if anyone can give inputs on difference between 'wafer-fab process engineer' and 'mask operations process engineer' in terms of work responsibilities, work-life balance and career growth? Thanks!
Anything is better than the nonsense in PTD but the cost of living in SC will be much higher and Intel ain’t generous.
You should ask their counterparts in Hillsboro, there is some IMO up there as well. But yeah that is a pay cut, used to be a 13% geo
I am not in mask design but I can tell you intel SC is pretty much a dead end. The salaries are low for this area and good engineers are leaving by the day. Come here only if you want to use your intel position as a launching platform to FAANG. Otherwise stay in Portland area where you can have means for a decent living with Intel TC. As G9 I made only 250K TC which may sound ok but believe it or not is not enough for Silicon Valley if you want to have a family and own a house etc. I recently moved to FAANG for a 100K increase in TC without taking into account the stock appreciation. That’s the kind of number you need here if you have any ambitions. With the TC you have been offered you need to live with a roommate and most likely will never be able to own property and support a family in Bay Area until you leave intel. So unless you’re an RCG bachelor and don’t want to save $$$ pass on the SC position even if you like the job.
I agree that the 10% pay hike won't match the extra cost of living in the bay area but he's a semiconductot process engineer not a software guy so far less opportunities and lower pay than what you're quoting.
I would love to know the answer to this too.

Principal Software Engineer TC~300K at Microsoft vs 600K at Meta. Is 300k pretty low for Principal scope?
What's the TC yo?
Current role: base 125k + 10% bonus + RSUs New role: 10% increase in base + same bonus and RSUs
Wow that’s a huge paycut given SC.
