16 weeks severance, not 6 months.

Cisco Ieader Jan 20, 2023

You are not expected to work next 2 months if laid off. Are you?

Amazon kjip Jan 20, 2023

Who will account 2 months of paid leave, you dumbass!

Meta ⛷️ Jan 20, 2023

Stop glorifying severances

Shopify hopify Jan 20, 2023

No, severances do need to be glorified. We dont want a bare minimum lawfully required severance tto become the norm. Not appreciating severance would not reduce layoffs.

Meta BoozeTank OP Jan 20, 2023

The action was inevitable. After the fact, analyzing what just happened and classifying the way of treatment as classy is not glorification

“I only got shot in the chest instead of the face, very classy”

Half a year of pay is amazing. These folks are so fortunate they work for a company that offers that. I've worked at many that laid people off without notice and with only 2 weeks severance.

Trust me, as a laid off person from Meta the trauma and not being able to sleep is not worth whatever $$$ you will have left when this is over.

You are expected to be with google within the notice period. So if you get a new offer another company within the notice period, you will receive nothing. So basically is 16 weeks. Notice period does not count

Google MGUC73 Jan 20, 2023

Who's going to tell Google if you get a new job? Also it still counts... you can just delay interviewing or start date.

Toptal aCXi70 Jan 20, 2023

If you are on visa, that may be an issue. Delaying interviewing or start date will deny you the potential salary from your new company. Anyway doesn't matter what i think. Wish all the affected well and speedy transitions to their new jobs

Anybody who says stop glorifying severance never worked in a core job. They pay 1.5 weeks per year of service. So if you have been with the company for 4 years you get 6 weeks max. 2 years - 3 weeks 6 months pay + depending on years of service is like a paid vacation. You can relax for 4 months, get your mental health right and then find jobs.

Komodo Health new; Jan 20, 2023

Seriously. Lot of folks who have only experienced some of the cushiest jobs to ever exist. 6 months of pay during layoffs is mind-blowing to the overwhelming majority of people.

Entitled tech workers complaining about this severance don't understand that the severance is 3x what the average American makes LOL
