I joined Apple 2 weeks ago. I’ve come from Amazon and seen that the infra in my group is leagues behind what I worked with in Amazon. Other than that, I’m planning to move to Europe in a year or two. I’ve read multiple threads that say internal transfers are super hard. I have a similar offer from Uber and I keep having thoughts of quitting and taking up Uber on their offer. How does Uber’s infra fare compared to F/G/Amazon/Msft? How easy or difficult is it to transfer internally to a location in Europe (say Amsterdam) in Uber? Is it worth making the switch in such a short time frame? TC: 290k Yoe: 6
Uber infra is much better
Uber has teams in Amsterdam, however, you'd gave to interview to transfer internally.
Eh, I landed at Uber after working first at Google then a startup that utilized external SaaS well and think Uber's tooling and infra is not as good as either. I wouldn't hold your breath, but then again I have no idea what Apple is like. Any pain points in particular you want insight on?
Particularly the technologies. For example - usage of micro services, docker or even a cloud is not seen in my org while the rest of the world is moving at a fast pace
Uber infra by itself is good but not comparable to Google and FB.
What .org?
Uber infra is better than Apple but way behind Google. Not too hard to relocate although you may have to go to Danemark rather than the Netherlands.
Why everyone wants to move to Europe?
Chill cities. Multi cultural. Wanderlust!
You didn’t research Apple at all before joining? A cursory search will show the innumerable rants about infra
Would you please share your amazon TC as well? You are in Seattle? (Sorry don’t have any idea about Uber)
I was in Seattle. Amazon TC was around 205k
