Apple - funny policies.
Just noticed Apple is sorta “destroying” other business by making them look bad. E.g. they say “this app is tracking you. Ask app not to track”. Which make app devs look bad. They themself know how much every single app is making - something that should be a private data and probably how much their users are making and tracking every single tap on the screen. But they don’t say anywhere - “hey - we are tracking you”. They don’t put on the box of iPhone - the apps on this device may track you. Is this normal?
Apple is like the yakuza, it’s the mafia, but they behave themselves enough that people love them. Although this has changed in recent years as more people learn about their antics

Not an apple fanboy (we charge too much for everything, so generally there are better deals elsewhere) but I loved taking down meta and the other info thieves.

Planned obsolescence is a far worse example, but yes. Also trying to spin removing ac adapters from products as an environmental advantage. Fuck all that noise.
Your life is public the minute you get on the internet. Apple is great at marketing itself and throwing shade at its rivals. Remember the “I’m a PC” ads?
It’s a smart business strategy. Most competitors have a much bigger reliance on ad revenue derived from (or improved by) personal data. The more they choke off that revenue for competitors, the less resources those companies have to go after Apple’s core businesses. It also lets them position as the ‘safe/private/reliable’ tech giant. I don’t know how true that is, but gotta be more true than for Google.
Apple has their own ad service... Tell me how they will do targeted ads without using your personal data? They use your data.
Apple abides by the same policies for its own apps as it lays out for 3P apps.
Roast Apple for not innovating, selling ridiculously priced products, not adopting USB-C, Siri, etc. but NOT “ask apps not to track”. It is a master stroke!
