Amazon: 72k split over 2 years 152 base + 115 rsu units (standard Amazon vesting schedule 5,15 etc) Seattle Apple: 65k sign on 155 base + 130k rsu (25% /y) Cupertino Other aspects: - Amazon doesn't have ESPP and 401k sucks - How does Apple / Amazon compare w.r.t compensation at performance appraisals - what's the typical rsu grants given year over year at these companies - Apple seems to have good employee benefits compared to Amazon
Seattle is also cloud city. So if you go there you have plenty of employment opportunities. Cost of living, while rising, is still less than bay area/silicon valley.
Yes, many companies have their cloud operations based in Seattle and also since it's always cloudy, it rains a lot :p
Is this ICT3 or 4 at Apple?
It's senior software not sure of ict level
Sr should be ICT4 but your RSU seems not much
I switched from amazon to Apple 5 years ago. Apple is way better than amazon wrt to benefits and employee happiness. Also no on call and RSU refreshers are great if u are a good performer. Really high refereshers . Note though like all big companies depends on your team and org. AmA.
I was hearing similar comments wrt refresher rsus, thanks for your inputs though.
How much percent of salary or initial RSU grant do they give rsu refreshers? Sorry if I sound dumb. Will be joining Apple in few weeks and wanted to know this.
Other thing to consider here is - Apple’s vesting starts after 6 months and vests 12.5 percent every 6 months
What level is this offer for?
Just go to Apple and thank me later. Amazon stock will keep growing and your hike gets subdued by it and total compensation BS. This year I got 15% hike theoretically with no real hike (0.5% base increment)
You should be ashamed of yourself in making such statements being an Amazonian. If you really think your compensation is BS, go leave and find one outside that you think fits you.
Nothing personal dude.. Just my opinion to the person asking it. Feel free to help him not judge me.
Doesn't Amazon reduce the number of RSUs if stock goes up ?
Yes and as seen above its apparently betrayal for an Amazonian to complain about it.
Yeah Oneofakind is truly one of a kind. Literally everyone at Amazon that I know complains about our comp model. It puts most of the risk on the employee with little potential upside. Basically they have a range for your expected comp. if you exceed it due to appreciated RSUs that happen to be vesting, you get nothing. I have worked at Amazon for 3 years and have gotten no additional RSUs since joining and my base has gone up $10k (due to a role change). My total comp has gone up due to appreciation of the RSUs but not due to my personal efforts.
How long have you been working for?
What is your profile? Based on the org and team you will get refresher around 75-100% each year if you perform above and beyond
As much as I am not a fan of Amazon, Washington has no state income tax so you effectively keep an additional 10% of your money
And Seattle is still cheaper even though it's pretty expensive now
