How is Apple AIML? Heard mixed feedbacks of it on Blind, including Cons: 1. Very top down culture and PM driven. 2. Siloed. Each team works independently. Very little information sharing. 3. ML technique/infrastructure is not as good as other large companies like google and meta. 4. Lots of people from google and culture is mixed and wired (in a negative way?). Pros: Good pay and refresh WLB is good in some teams For people working/worked at Apple AIML What do you think? Are points 1-4 true or false? If those cons are true. Can you give more details? How does it impact your happiness/wlb and growth? Thanks!
All your points are true, nothing much to add. If you decide to join, hope your pros outweigh the cons. I do think infrastructure and information sharing might slowly be moving to a more "across Apple" kind of collaboration, but it's too early to say whether that'll take shape. And I imagine it'll move at a glacial pace.
Don’t go to 🍎
Unless you confess your rear is about to explode, you won’t be shown signs to the restroom.
Can verify that things are very top down. Doubt you'd get a comp boost.
AIML is top-down?? I don't feel that at all. ICTs propose and work on weird half-baked stuff all the time and their managers dutifully cheerlead them. Maybe junior-level software engineers would get stuff assigned to them, but that's mostly because they aren't experienced enough (or knowledgeable on ML) to propose stuff on their own.
I wasn't talking about AIML specifically. But in my experience at Apple, decisions about features are decided at a very high level and then orders are sent down the food chain. Definitely feels different from the bottom up places I've worked in the past.
Er... the question is specifically about AIML. The title of the post also says AIML.
I've been at AIML for more than 4 years as ict4 No. 1 is false (see my comment above). No. 2 is generally correct, sometimes leading to different teams working on the same problem. No. 3 is true. Infrastructure has improved, but I'm sure is not as good as meta/google. No. 4 is half-true. There's a mix, but I don't think it acts in a "negative" way. In general, diversity is a good thing. Overall, 1-4 don't bother me that much. More bothersome is that the level of talent varies wildly and there are too many wannabe amateurs, but this may be a problem in the ML industry in general, not just Apple. If you're good and can prove it, then you'll have a good life at Apple AIML.
Hey @Bolox3 how’s the learning opportunities and growth (not just in terms of levels but tech skills) in AIML org at apple ? Looking to join as ICT3 with 2 yoe..
Cons 1+2 and both your pros are true for all of Apple and not AI/ML specific
