So the Cook/Trump spinmeisters are at it again, touting that the new Mac Pro's will be manufactured in Austin and those jobs are paying 6 figures. Anyone who knows anything about PC manufacturing knows that systems are really just assembled and tested there and most of the guts like mainboards, GFX cards, & SSDs are manufactured overseas but by giving Trump a good media story, Apple got tariff exemptions on those components. I can see maybe management and engineering getting 6 figures but I'm guessing the average manufacturing worker salary is probably more like 5 figures. Anyone know what people on the line make salary wise?
Its still jobs that Apple could have outsourced to China but decided to keep in US
Yeah sure, but the Mac Pro revenues are a drop in the bucket for Apple, so they're not giving up a lot of profits for the added expense of assembling them in the US. The media spin and kissing Trump's ass is more valuable (and Trump is completely clueless about global supply chain anyway). Now moving their bread & butter iPhones and iPads manufacturing to the US would seriously cut into Apple's profits so that will stay in Asia w/o question. Reminds me of our old CEO BK hitting the white house in early 2017 and boasting about restarting construction on the mothballed AZ plant but no mention that 5 of our 7 overseas manufacturing sites are in Asia....
You’re right ... tats how the game is played
