I have several interviews scheduled with Apple some are based in Cupertino and one is based in Austin. I’m close to the offer stage. Where should I go? What TC should I expect for the roles at both locations? What’s the WLB at Austin office compared to Cupertino? What’s the career trajectory difference between the two locations? How easy is team transfer? I’m more familiar with the Cupertino office since I have been working with the teams there as an onsite vendor for 4 years. Role: hardware EPM Yoe: 4 Current TC: 170k Current location: Bay Area Spouse works in non-tech Like the Bay Area but COL is too high. We don’t mind the hot weather. Have traveled to Austin and liked the city. #apple #appleaustin #austin #cupertino
Austin is better for homebodies
Austin is too hot. I visited once back in August. Day time 100+ F, even at 11pm it was still 80+ F. Yes, houses are cheaper with big yards. But how do you enjoy your enomours yard when it is too hot to go outside?
Our hobbies are mostly indoor lol. Maybe once a year go hiking or go to the beach even in the Bay Area.
Based on how your poll is setup, it sounds like you’ve already made your decision….
Yeah, we lean towards Austin. The only reason I’m still considering Cupertino is the career opportunity.
I love Austin, but unless you live in the burbs you’re not getting a “cheap” house. Only cheap compared to SCV. You can find good homes in town for 800K or $1M, but that’s really at the top end of affordability of a 300k salary.
Austin housing is not cheap like it used to be pre covid. If you are planning on moving here make sure to research housing
it you are career driven and you get good offer, being next to big teams will help accelerate your compensation and impact. See what you get first before deciding
Agree. The positions I got at Cupertino look more exciting than the one I got at Austin tbh.
Austin op good house it’s hot for 3 months max it’s not as bad as ppl here say we moved to Austin from sea been 2 years don’t regret it
Austin. There are plenty of jobs in the area, no state income tax and a lower cost of living than CA (although not as low as 5 years ago).
Unbearably hot in the summer though
Does AC help if I only do indoor activities? Gym, movie, shopping, eating, etc…
