DOJ coming for Apple, but honestly they had it coming I personally completely agree that Apple uses it's privacy laws as an "elastic shield for financial gains" that's so true -- they limit other apps when they are competitors and basically use this to cause problems and get ahead of the game it's highkey messed up. What do you all think? Agree? Disagree? https://techcrunch.com/2024/03/21/doj-calls-apples-privacy-justifications-an-elastic-shield-for-financial-gains/?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly90ZWNobWVtZS5jb20v&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAANHlAjAhZgwGMbzLruSAsitJCS38N3fVAsLBFgpPlF40EVVma6UGViFSUX4TYjmSRweS0wH5rAcFztomNHNuTS4tHLtkivislyx2AwjA1oMgbgeyXXfBkWTBBnCprz9gmfRi636W_oNJFREDSjpCo17YtO4sDrWMEYbV6Y0VbRN4
Better Privacy protections are the main reason I stick with Apple.
Apple does what it does to safeguard its interests, so does Google and so does every other tech giant who can. Every emperor is naked here, everyone is using its monopoly to get an advantage in other areas they are not at the top or struggling. At the end, users love their Apple products, are loyal and spend $1k on a new phone when they know they don’t need it when it’s barely any different than last years model. Ecosystem is powerful and users are locked in. Is it a bad thing? Depends on who you are! For consumers, they don’t care and are happy with their products
I agree, but monopolization has and continues to result in that same quality and consumer sentiment dwindling over time, and if the same happens here, Apple’s ecosystem monopolization makes it very hard for consumers to leave, resulting in a bad consumer experience and overall bad corporation behavior. More so, an economy like this thrives on competition (and so does the consumer experience, as competition drives innovation and quality).
I’m a consumer, specifically an iPhone user, which I think is a great product but I also support changing their effective monopoly
AAPL needs to go to $180 next week, else my call will suffer.
No. You’re completely wrong OP, and the DOJ is just the government overreaching like they always do. If apple wanted to burn Meta/Google to the ground they could since it all runs through iOS. It would be much easier for Apple to build a search engine than go through the privacy troubles. What Apple is doing is important as fuck-safeguarding user data and privacy. It’s something meta and Google can’t say.
as if people will be buying iPhone if Google and Instagram won't be supported on it
😂😂 yeah people don’t own a phone just to use instagram. Wtf
Sounds like the government wants to destroy Apple’s walled garden, but isn’t that walled garden the appeal of Apple for a lot of users?
I love their devices and ecosystem, but there isn’t an ounce of what the DOJ said that isn’t true. In this country, they are and have been (for a while) a monopoly. I hate everything that company has done in the past few years on their “treatment” of consumers, their skirting of DMA compliance, and every other instance of blatantly playing the bully to other companies and holding their customers hostage. They 100% should and hopefully will see major consequences to this.
Degens on this thread wanting SPY to the moon and their networths to alpha centauri, but also wants AAPL to give away their “monopoly”.🤷♂️
Government is wrong. Government is an inefficiency to the free market.
Markets with network effects are inherently monopolistic, and natural monopoly markets are not free. Intervention is _required_ for healthy competition.
Wrong. No company stays the biggest forever. There will be a day when apple is inevitably replaced by a competitor (in a true free market that is. Not whatever this garbage is that we have today)
The one that completely astounds me is you can’t use Google maps as your “maps app” on iPhone. Microsoft got in trouble for merely making its browser the default, but you could at least change it! In order not to accidentally use Apple Maps I deleted that app and now when I click an address it gives an error. I have to copy the address, open Google Maps… and the part that takes it over the top is when I paste the address it tries to stop me once more. “Allow paste?” Wtf - it never asks me to allow paste anywhere else that I’ve noticed. So flagrant!
Weird, it always asks me which app to open in
It depends which app you are using. Some apps have explicit support for multiple maps apps.
