Apple Offer - negotiate existing vacation

Just wrapped up the interview process and hopefully going to get an offer soon. I know Apple only offers a paltry 12 days PTO (that seems to be non-negotiable?) However, I am in a wedding in early November which would be one day and also already have a two week vacation planned around Christmas. It appears that the annual holiday shutdown will cover some of this, but I’m not going to cancel/change my flight/hotel. I guess I could work remote on a few of the days since it is before the return to office, but can I negotiate this existing vacation into my offer or go negative to start? Any insight from someone who had a similar situation would be welcome. PgM - 5 YOE - 150k TC #interview #negotiation #pto

You can try telling the recruiter. They’ll have to get approval from the vp. Chances are slim

Absolutely, you can ask for that (directly to the manager) as your final negotiation point before you sign the offer. Manager will let you borrow it and you pay back as you accrue

You could push the start date until next year, but I am pretty sure apple is 3 weeks plus two weeks shut down. One over the winter hols and the second over the summer

Summer? No. Winter, yes. Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks (until 2nd January) are typically off, but it’s not a “confirmed”. Company discretion for the holiday offs.

Depends on your team and role. I did on calls over the holiday shutdowns because that meant I got paid for it (as a contractor) with not much going on.

I did this before I started. Zero problems.

You can ask for borrowed paid time off like others have said. Worst case if they say no, ask for unpaid. If your manager and HR is refusing even unpaid, then you may want to reconsider working there.

Apple honors previously planned vacations. Totally fine. Don't worry about it. I did it. My coworker who had a 3 weeks planned vacation also did it 2 weeks after joining. No issues at all.

What do you mean no issues taking the vacation? Did they take unpaid leave or some other kind of leave?

Apple timcool Oct 6, 2021

I took a vacation and remote work after 2 months of joining and management was cool with that. Bring it up with your manager as soon as you start and most likely they wouldn’t raise any issues unless they are a jerk.

I’m curious but it’s not up to the manager right? I thought by policy Apple doesn’t allow extra leaves
