Apple Offer Evaluation

Base = $145K
RSUs = $105K
Sign On = $10K

I have 7 years of experience 3 of which is outside US. Recruiter budged from 140k base to 145k but not moving on any other numbers. Also no competing offers. Its a Software Engineer position with AppleCare org.

I believe it’s on the low end. And does anyone knows what ICT level is this position? Recruiter told me this not an entry level position

Edit: Location is Cupertino, CA

  • Definitely low. You should be at $1,000,000 base!

      Could be, for example in finance industry the above offer would be amazing. Do think seems low for Apple though.

    Depends on location. If this is Austin Texas then the offer is great. If Silicon Valley then it is very low

    Diretly ask recruiter what ICT3. Your offer seems to be low when compared to salaries on Blind.

    Is this in Cupertino? If you are relocating, have you done a thorough cost of living analysis? SF Bay is expensive.

    AppleCare pays less than Software Engineering and Services. If Cupertino, this is a middle of the road ICT 3 offer. Nothing exceptional. Your sign on bonus is low - new grads in SWE got a bigger signing bonus last year.

    ICT 3 at Apple equates to mid level engineer. For 7 years of applicable experience (location doesn’t matter), you should aim to be hired as a Sr. Engineer for your next career move. That means getting hired as an ICT 4 at Apple.

    I believe your negotiations are not working due to lack of leverage. The Recruiter is playing standard hardball making a 5k raise seem huge. Counter offers and the will to walk away will give you leverage.

    How did your interview go? Managers really don’t like to lose candidates at this stage. It takes forever to find a hire-able candidate. Remember this in your negotiation.

    How much % is this better than your current comp?

      My goal is to move to ICT4 in a year if it’s possible so just wanted to accept the offer to get foot in the door. I live Santa Clara and my commute was hell so another reason to accept this offer was commute now it reduces from 1 hour 30 mins to 5 mins max

      It’s possible but you need to wow your manager and skip level. At Apple you get promoted when your managers fight to retain and reward you.

    Everyone is saying the offer is low, but if it's your only offer it doesn't sound like you have much of a choice...

    At 7 years what else does someone want ? Do you think everyone with 20 years of experience earn > 200k
