Started IC4 (non-technical) in late 2019 and recently got a M2 promotion as backfill for my previous manager who was an M3 but leadership/HR didn't want to give M3 due to me having 10 years less experience and only 1 year of management experience (OK). And because of being promoted just a few months ago my refresh this year was based on IC4 not M2 with no promotion grant. So outside of the modest salary bump, I simply earned the right to do more work and I'm fairly disappointed as expectations for more RSUs was mismanaged by interim my manager. I'm outperforming my previous M3 manager and recognized for it by directors and VPs (hence promotion) so a path to M3 seems possible but of course nothing is certain as I'll have to revalidate my performance with a new manager as part of the Services reorg. The workload, complexity and pace is fairly intense and frankly I'm bit burnt out between doing the work of two FTEs for months, fighting for just desserts, and constant reorgs. Not sure if its worth playing the long game or packing it up. Am I being too impatient? IC4 - Services (non-technical) Base: $170k Sign-on: $20k Bonus: 10% RSU: $125/4 YOE: 9 Years at Apple: ~2 Current TC with salary bump: 355K #Apple #promotion #compensation #M2 #tech #IC4
For those voting to leave what's the reasoning? One consideration is the external title for M2/M3 is the same so it can be obfuscated and leveraged for a high position at another company.
As an Apple M2 are you considered a “Sr. Manager”?
Based on TCs posted, you got 50% hike and being in the same company, getting 50% is awesome. If you really believe you deserve more and if senior management is reasonable (if you think), politely express your feelings (not disappointment) about TC. Perform well(as you are already doing) then after a year ask for adjustment. Maybe I’m naive/too optimistic but above should work.
That's fair, on the conservative side they probably want to see a full year at M2 to make the case for M3 the following. I'm a little bitter because leveling is more weighted on tenure and YOE vs actual performance but I get it. Mid-year is always an option in Services but a rare exception from what I gather.
<10 yoe and < 2 in management looking for m3? You sound like a superstar so might as well walk. If you don’t think so then you’re greedy af.
I’d at least give it a year and see what refreshers look like for you next year. If you’re still disappointed, then use your management exp to trampoline to a higher paid job.
Thanks, from what I've heard M2 refresh is around 130-200k on a 200-230k base, which is fairly middling. M3 comes with promotion grant and 250-300k refresh on 250k base so time to M3 is the most critical question I think.
