Now Apple made a six year deal with Qualcomm, is in house modem chip development still in the card. Six year deal seems long time and Apple doesn’t sound confidant and aggressive in modem chip development. I was hoping they could make first working chip in iPhone in 3-4 years given apple’s track record and execution focus once they decide to do something. Any comments ??
Intel's 5G ship captain Umashankar peaced out to Apple 2 months ago. Maybe Johny just told Timmy, damn, just pay Qualcomm whatever they want. 6 Billion dollars to settle it + 8 to 9 bucks per future iPhone? Hahaha! QCOM bent Timmy over their sofa!
I think Apple trusted intel and they got screwed as intel couldn’t deliver. It’s hard to believe when company has money and customer and still they couldn’t deliver.
More like Apple tried to use a slumpbuster to get back at his hot crazy girlfriend. Bought the slumpbuster fake tits, a tan, but in the end it was just putting lipstick on a pig. Hot crazy gf made the guy buy her a $6 Billion house and monthly cost of living payments.
Lol..😂
are they still continuing their effort
Rumors say that Apple might actually buy Intel’s 5G team as they are desperately looking for people to build a 5G modem in house.
if Apple wants to go that route, they have already done it. That team can't deliver, so it might be a bigger headache to acquire them.
☝️this
Lol for sure...execution is tough
Modems are like Intel's core chips for Qualcomm. How much every the company sucks, the chips cold out good and better than competition
Don't know why u say the company sucks? From what I read, they seem to be pioneers in the comm space and frankly the reason why Android can compete against iPhone.
Probably complaining about the HW TC. Maybe ex-QCOM. Well, that's why he's at Google now
Qcom modem team is very strong team with many people 15 + yrs experience and PHD in communication. Excellent execution team . No one can beat Qualcomm in this space including apple.
are you in modem :)
Have heard so, but is it really ?
I’m pretty sure they could make a good modem in 4-5 years. But make a good modem, qual it with carriers *and* make it such that they won’t get patent trolled by QCOM’s patent-everything-under-the-sun portfolio? Seems a stretch
@metafor I think if they can’t make it and qualify in 3- 4 years they should not even try now. If they do they will be always catching up with others. Is cellular group still on at Apple or done ? They are hiring at very slow speed and at that rate they won’t be able to make it.
I’m sure they can make a “working” modem in 4-5 years, but performance would be way behind. Or even behind mediaTech or Samsung.
