https://twitter.com/TechEmails/status/1481339345822879745 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29913693 Does Apple's anti-consumer (and anti-developer) rent-seeking greed know no bounds?
They own their platform. When did you become a communist asking for free lunches? It’s a free world. Update: I’m posing as libertarian here. I think reality is more complex.
But is their platform anti-competitive? If everyone has to go through Apple to access apps isn’t that a natural monopoly?
They don’t have a monopoly. By number, most devices are android. Developers are free to distribute apps outside apples ecosystem
Pure greed
Lyft and uber should pull out of app store . So should Facebook and YouTube. Let's see how many people still retain their apple. Apple has always shown monopolistic behaviour
When they do, they lose business. If they decide to build a competing platform it would take years
Apple would loose business too. The phone then essentially becomes a rock without these apps.
There's a platform cost. Why Uber is charging 40%?
The platform cost of hosting Uber on the app store is nowhere near a 30% cut of all of Uber's transactions.
Popularity, platform development cost, maintainence cost, etc. Uber can decide to create an OS and appstore. Soon iCar will complete with Uber
