Apple folks - how is middle management under Eddy Cue?

Aspects I would like to know more about: - political - empire builders - technical - customer focused - collaborative - care about engineers Also how does middle management identify new lines of work? Is it top down? Bottom up? Or does every project get approved by Tim Cook? Middle management - M2 and above until VP

Apple has serious management issues. It is a highly political environment and majority of managers are after getting recognition for themselves and do not care about their direct reports or productive collaborations. Apple has one of the most toxic cultures among big companies. Also, be aware that many managers are non technical and clueless about the technical aspects of the work. Upper level managers decide about everything and it is a very top down structure.

With such a scathing response, why are you still at Apple? Or are engineers not affected by it?

All of the managers that I’ve had direct interaction with have been technically competent — up to Senior Director. And, yes, in Eddy’s org. I’ve worked for a few large companies through my career, and Apple’s management is BY FAR the most technically competent. YMMV.

Ok. I checked a few profiles on LinkedIn and they all seem to have strong technical profiles ... definitely more than Amazon for sure on average. This data aligns with what you are saying but not what others have said below.
