I am currently an ICT3 in tools and infrastructure team, i have an offer for internal transfer to a TPM role. My career goal is to become a Product manager or Director of the Infrastructure teams someday. Will taking the TPM role take me closer to my goal? Should I make this move anyway? There is absolutely no way that I can grow in my current role for atleast 5 years.
As far as I know, HW TPM is a very good and high visibility role, it involves a bit of travel and excellent RSUs. I have been try to get a TPM role but hiring managers are not very positive as I do not have any technical experience. Can you share your background
Is TPM same as EPM at Apple?
Thanks! I am also trying to apply for EPM roles at Apple (currently HW design engineer with 10+ yrs experience) and wondering if this is right move in terms of career growth and financially compared to staying in the same domain.
Apple is cutting down on EPM, move is risky. This is true outside of Apple too.
Any data to back this comment about Apple cutting down on EPMs? By the way my position is TPM (but i think they might be same).
I don’t have official stats, I’m talking from what I’ve seen in my group and friend’s group. Both of our groups are part of Craig’s SWE. We used to have few EPMs for features in main iOS release, now we have one. The other is a hw epm. Msft used to have so many PMs, look what happened to them. Same is true in amazon.
Is internal transfer easy at Apple ?
may i know how it goes? I want to hear more details after you move
How was the process of internal transfer?
Hi even I'm planning to get to tpm role in future. Did you apply internally? How many years of experience do you have?
Yes, its an internal transfer. 6 years.
How many at Apple?
