Oh wow. Apple appears to have discontinued their work on building an electric car and will instead prioritize AI. There will be layoffs involved. That’s big news. Apparently they have devoted over a decade to this. https://apple.news/AWRvFDx8JTvqrs48WdVdvfQ
I would have been pissed when I wouldn’t have been able to afford Apple car. Bet they would sell it for over a million
They probably arrived at 200k price point and thought, nah, it doesn't make sense for us.
Apple car would be the dumbest thing ever. Good riddance
Google will stop in house silicon development efforts. Op you will get the news soon.
Like stop developing their own chips? That sounds shortsighted. Like Google’s chips are also AI efforts. In fact, if anything they should double down on that as well. How would you know this?
Google silicon team is really way behind industry’s standard. They hire so many incompetent people while being over confident for themselves. I’m from the vendor side, so I can see clearly that the silicon engineering ability order goes like: Apple >>>> Qualcomm > Intel > Nvidia >>>> Google
Apple should just buy out Rivian
apple will just buy rivian for pennies and then slap their logo on it and call it a day... i wonder how that would affect tesla fanboys, a lot of them are also apple fanboys too. That's gonna be weird for them
iCar ❌ dieCar ✅
It's not even the first time for apple layoff on car thing. https://www.macrumors.com/2019/02/27/apple-self-driving-car-project-layoffs/
It doesn't say layoffs. They are being moved to other AI projects
The article says that according to Bloomberg there will be layoffs, but they are unsure about the number impacted. You think you can repurpose all engineers working on an electric car to work on AI?
Guessing hardware guys who can't be absorbed into iPhone/iPad/etc will probably get let go, software guys should be able to be repurposed for AI and other stuff. Apple poached a lot of engineers from Tesla. But Elon won at last, after all.
