Apple is known for cover ups.
Yeah Tim is doing a good job covering up. If it was Meta it would have had worst headlines possible
I think it’s just because they killed the entire product, and it was an EV car so that’s the bigger headline. I also read that they will move everyone to AI, so I guess they lied a bit.
Looks reorg more than a layoff
Link?
Probably told everyone they have to move to Texas to keep their jobs.
Good ole San Diego
It refers to the Apple Car team
Apple is still making cars ?
It’s not a layoff yet. Everyone is being told they have 90 days to find a new role within the company, and knowing Apple it should be easy to absorb the 2000 or so people impacted. Headcount is there. There might be a few people who won’t be able to find something in 90 days and will be laid off in that sense. But it shouldn’t be that big of a number
That’s a layoff, the 60-90 day requirement is mandatory per the WARN act
Yeah the majority of those impacted will be able to find internal roles. This isn’t a Google style layoff where all these people woke up to a layoff email and all of their accounts shut off.
Google is wrong. The 60 day notice of termination is required by CA law but it’s not required to give employees an opportunity to find an internal position within 90 days. For cost cutting there is no opportunity for internal transfer as the headcount must reduce. In this case goal is not headcount reduction but shut down of a pointless business itself . In theory all the employees can transfer internally. For the actual layoff and severance have to wait after 90 days (paid) to see what the figure looks like. Although if one wants to move externally still makes sense to wait and get laid off to receive the severance and then start a new position.
As far as I know, the internal transfer is like finding a new position, no privilege. I guess most managers still consider the best candidate among internal and external candidates. So, I believe some people cannot find a position internally within 90 days, especially the openings remains low now.
Is this their car group?
