Apple will temporarily drop its contentious App Store fees for businesses that have been forced by the pandemic to pivot to online-only events, in an unexpected concession after increasingly vocal complaints over the rules of its store. The exemption, which lasts until the end of the year, will affect sales made through the iPhone apps of companies including Facebook, Airbnb and the exercise class-booking platform ClassPass. Some were convinced that something like this would never happen. While this is temporary, it certainly shows the Apple can be reasonable! https://www.ft.com/content/fbabedb0-3ed2-4c47-94f2-f165bd15edb3 #apple #facebook #appstore
I’m glad papa Tim is supporting hurt companies and not epic or Facebook that are only opening their mouth because it benefits them the most
Yes, that generousity extends only for 3 months. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it is reasonable. The timing is suspect, and the ride on the moral highway is short. Your argument is also a foot gun because FB decided to do the same for Facebook pay for a year. So, according to your line of argument, FB is on a higher "moral" highway?
You think this benefits epic the most? That's garbage. Epic makes most it's money on other platforms (pc, nintendo, xbox). Epic is doing it because they can and they can survive during the fight unlike most other companies. Apple is exploiting monopoly power. eventually the 30 percent will come down either through a congressional forced open market or due to the threat of one. Enjoy the gravy train while you can apple. Apple is only getting away with it because they are big and Tim and trump cuddle each night
Sounds like Apple is using the pandemic as an excuse to reevaluate their business instead of pressure from Congress IMO https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2020/07/29/technology/tech-ceos-congress-what-to-know.amp.html https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.businessinsider.com/what-happens-next-after-big-tech-hearing-2020-7%3Famp
I doubt it, because this move is only applicable to businesses which moved online because if covid, and that too temporary.
