Hi Apple folks, Trying to understand research program manager role. Apparently it is similar to engineering program manager. My question is whether this role is hardcore project management or does it have elements of creating a vision and allows ownership over outcomes? Maybe engineering PMs can share what they do? Thanks. #pm #research
Looks a fancy tittle for doing regular job related to ML . It would mostly require collaborating with different teams to get the project done. By the way, the job reuirement is an year old.
I’m only guessing here but I have seen similar roles in Facebooks applied ai ml group and in google brain. The role usually involves productizing research and it appeals to a group of people who really love ML at a very high level. One guy i knew at google did a project to show gains on the edge vs the server and one guy in fb told me he was worked on a machine translation project. Honestly it’s hard to explain and not for everyone (not for me) because you likely have a very long cycle to get it into a users hands etc. that’s just my view but I don’t know the group. In my opinion if you have skills, ml folks will listen to you on vision - otherwise they will talk about how they are the top scientists and blah blah blah
