https://finance.yahoo.com/news/apple-buying-rivian-nissan-fisker-201726630.html The EV sector faces a growth slowdown, and pressure is mounting for the likes of Rivian, Lucid, and Fisker.
Why would Apple (a company famously interested in enormous margins) buy a struggling car maker that sells its vehicles below cost?
Cause they can do it better. Tying it to the Apple ecosystem. And make profits. They donโt have to spend a lot of R&D when they can just buy businesses. What kind of dumb question is this
Riiiight. Cuz building cars in America is anything even remotely related to building electronics in China.
If I were Apple I would buy Rivian and discontinue the truck and keep R1S.. there are not many good ev suvs for 3 row seating.. Model x is nice but falcon wings is too much for everyday use.. Rivian can be a good fit for apple considering the vehicles look smooth which is what apple products normally are.. in regard to color and shape.. I would then partner with Tesla to have fsd loaded into Rivian ecosystem considering its way advanced and proven over regular autopilots..
lol Tesla would never
Not happening
If Apple was really interested in automotive industry, they would already release the vehicle 5 years back, instead of lingering it so long and finally shutting down the SPG and laying off the team.
First, I don't think it's going to happen. Suspending disbelief, a few possible reasons: - They could acquire Rivian at fire sale prices - Motivation for killing the Apple car project. They are no stranger to acquiring tech rather than building it.
Apple would never jump into a struggling market like this.
