Software QA engineer here with python expertise (Automation, Tools). Been at Apple for a few years, I have been thinking of switching due to: - Repetitive work schedule every week - Time spent on project management chores more than actual testing - Never find time to automate or write tools bcz just the manual test takes up the whole week (not bcz I can’t test faster but due to the amount of churns and types of tests) - Honestly QA feels like a joke around here, lacks integrity, team succumbs to pressure from dev, doesn’t stand up for what we believe is the right thing to do If anyone has experience or insight into how different Apple and Google are for Test Engineers (A & M) roles, it really helps. TC: 240K YOE: 8 total, 3 in Apple Org: SWE #google #apple
If this work doesn’t enthuse you, why don’t you move to SDET for more challenging problems ?
I don’t want to be in pure automation/coding role. I like learning new features with everyone. I like a healthy combination of manual and automation
Which companies have pure automation role anyway? i heard SDET do both manual and automation
TC and yoe at Apple ? And which Org you work for ?
Oops added now
Sounds like you should move to SDET role. Do you have SDETs in Apple who do no manual testing and write tools and frameworks ? That will keep you motivated it seems
What do you mean by "write tools & frameworks"? Could you please elaborate a little more?
@userename is there an opening in your team? I would happily join your team for that TC.
Can you please elaborate a little more about what kind of manual testing do you do?
We test the new features on a daily/weekly basis, and some regression testing too
I got that. By manual testing, do you mean that you use the product in a particular way to find bugs in its various components? Or do you write scripts in bash or tcl to automate running tests that were written by others?
