This being my last internship, I was deciding between Apple and Meta (return offer). I would appreciate any feedback or guidance ! Apple Location: San Diego, CA Org: Hardware Tech Salary: 52/ hourly, 78/ overtime Pros: - Better likelihood for return offer (return offer process not as defined as Meta but nevertheless), - New company, new experience - Stability - Transferrable skills/ Tech stack - Additional resume value Cons: - Lower new grad salary (according to levels) - Meals/ commuting options not provided (adds extra costs to internship) - WLB (may not be able to LC as much/ interview) - Team not as interesting (SW team in a HW org) - Location not preferable Meta Location: Bay Area, CA Org: N.A. (recruiter mentioned that projects will be concentrated to Reality Labs/ IG) Salary: 9.2k / month Pros: - Prior experience (faster onboarding, can complete work faster + better chance for GE since I got EE last internship) - Preferred location - Better internship experience/ intern benefits - Interesting work - Higher new grad offer Cons: - Unsure about return offer situation, - Uncertain company outlook - Less pay overall than Apple (including OT) Personally, I really enjoyed my internship last summer at Meta and wouldn’t mind returning again on IG. Also, having been an EE intern and with prior experience, I am pretty confident I can get a GE rating for a strong return offer. I plan to LC over the summer to prep for hedge fund/ HFT/ unicorn recruitment in Fall, so while I do want a return offer, I’m willing to take risks early in my career. TC: None (grad student) YOE: 0 FTE (4 prior internships including two rotations at Tesla and most recently at Meta) #swe #apple #meta #internship
Apple .. for better and wider options if your goal is a return offer.
How is the internal mobility like at Apple? I would prefer to work on a team like AIML (better aligns with my interests/ graduate degree) instead of Hardware Tech
For FTE’s internal mobility is difficult. Not sure about interns looking for FT offers, you will have to go through a full loop in other orgs.
Happy for you!
Thanks!
Go to Meta..stay away from Apple. Don't want people at Apple who have to ask this question
I’m confused. I got my offer from Apple two weeks ago and was intent on joining until Meta got back to me just yesterday. I want to take the best approach to advance my career. If asking between Apple or Meta is a silly question, I’d appreciate your input to why!
He’s just being an asshole
Prioritize return offer odds over all else. Go with Apple. You can switch companies later if you want.
if u dont go with apple ur dumb
Meta benefits far outweigh Apple tbh so if you’re thinking return offer I’d say meta. But it’s riskier right now since we don’t know if they will start hiring again (I work at Apple)
Go with Apple. Then you’ll have both Apple and Meta on your resume.
Does Apple add that much resume value compared to another internship at Meta in an org like Instagram?
Apple is Apple! Def adds value imo
