I have FB and Nvidia offers, just wrapped up final rounds at Apple. I have an offer due soon, so I want to have enough time to fully decide. I'm a sophomore, so I have 2 more internships. - Apple: post si val on PMICs - $41/hr, $1k/mo housing - Nvidia: post si val on SoCs and GPU - $45/hr, $6600 housing stipend - Facebook: board-level infra - $7k/mo, location-dependant housing stipend I have 2 internships under my belt, 1 at Apple in board level hw, other at MSTF in SW. I want to try chip level work before I graduate. I still have 1 more internship after this one, so I have some flexibility there. I'm worried that board level work is getting outsourced so I think chip level might be a bit safer in that regard. I'm super passionate about power electronics and there's a chance at being partially in-person for me which is something I really value, so I'm leaning a lot towards Apple. I'm not sure how much repeated internships at Apple helps with career progression. Most important factors for me (in no particular order): - Learning, especially on stuff I really enjoy - Career progression - TC Edit: Went with Apple thanks everyone! #hardware #internship #apple #nvidia #facebook #engineering #tech
Hey, congrats on these offers! I'm a fellow new grad here. I've seen FB full time return offers for hardware and they're disgustingly low in comparison to what software interns receive. They are working on some really cool stuff in their AR/VR org, but if your passion is in power electronics, you'll definitely see more of that in server design. I don't know too much about NVIDIA, but I've seen some pretty high TCs on blind before. I feel most of their board level design work has already been outsourced (judging by location of postings), but someone feel free to correct me. I would go with Apple, given your interests are in power electronics. Their new grad offers are pretty low in RSU and sign on, but if you can get competing offers (as you've done here), you'll be fine.
Thanks! I agree about the FC intern return TC as well. Also they outsource their infra board design which makes me think that they're not super serious on their infra hw and I'm not sure how much system-level design is left to do. At Apple I really liked how they owned most of the design process but I'm afraid I won't get that same experience at Facebook. I suspected that Nvidia doesn't have too much board level work, but I'm afraid that if I enjoy board level work more than chip level, Nvidia won't be the best place for me. I appreciate your insight thank you!
Yeah, sounds about right for Facebook. I know Microsoft Azure outsources their board design work too. I remember a HW manager called it "normal work anyone can do" 😂. How's the FB intern salary in comparison to Apple/Nvidia?
