Applied Materials Interview experience

I was interviewed for Software Engineer position L2/L3 at Applied Materials. After going through three on-site interviews, the fourth one was with their contractor HR. She asked me the range and I did not answer and mentioned that I would prefer AMAT to get me a range if they would like to extend an offer. Five minutes later I get a call from HR again mentioning the range 120-130k and asking me if I will be okay. I denied as I have a current offer higher than what they mentioned. My point is why clarifying the range and basics was not part of first round even before having scheduled three on sites. Wasting a candidate’s time as well as the people interviewing. Has anyone gone through similar. #interview #semiconductor

It's a cheap company anyway, don't even bother 😂

Applied Material pjpja Jan 24, 2022

Yes.. thats typical applied.. they wont tell u range majority of time even for experienced roles..

Applied Material pjpja Jan 24, 2022

Anyway they pay peanuts so why bother asking for a range

Don’t waste your time with this company. They pay 🥜 and have no WLB

Extron CoderMonk OP Jan 24, 2022

Ay dios mio! That is insane

Applied Material metazon Jan 29, 2022

Is this total compensation or just the base also austin or bay area?

Extron CoderMonk OP Jan 29, 2022

Bay Area and just the base. The recruiter had no courtesy to even ask my current offer and be able to try to match. 😅 she straight away mentioned thank you and we will keep you posted for future roles 🤷‍♂️ who would want to consider future roles after thai experience.

Applied Material metazon Jan 29, 2022

Man i am sorry you had that experience but I think it is for good because Applied Materials is not a great company to work for and you are much better off applying for other companies. Do you know what the total compensation was for this position?

Applied Material KERL54 Jan 30, 2022

What is your YOE? I am a hardware engineer but wok with sw engineers closely. The senior ones make much better money and it's perfect place if you don't want your ass kicked; software is a support role at Applied and not core business, so you won't have be on call ever like in a typical software company. Anyway below E4 it's just cheap labor.

How is your work life balance? Heard there is a lot of micromanagement is that true?

Extron CoderMonk OP Jan 31, 2022

My YOE is 5.
