I am interested in applying to this position at Boeing, but I also keep reading about negative experiences of employees here in Blind. 1. Is working for Boeing really as bad as people say or it's highly dependent on the team? Should I even consider applying? 2. How is the WLB and compensation? #boeing #jobs
I think it depends on the division of Boeing you’d be joining - one of my best friends works in the defense division and he loves it. WLB is very solid along with compensation
If you are actively looking for a job I would recommend to send your application. You can figure out during the interview process if it seems a good place to be.
Where's the location? Some of those jobs can have very cool projects.
It's in Mesa, AZ
I love my experience at Boeing - it is what you make of it - good thing about Boeing is that one is able to change roles if say one role doesn’t excite you- I’ve been there now going on 7 years and have been in numerous roles gaining experience across the business units and even worked out in Europe WLB is good- depends on your team too but overall you can make for good WLB. Hope that helps! And good luck
That's good to hear!
WLB is good. Compensation could be a lot better. A lot of politics. Upward mobility stalls after a certain point. Work complexity stalls after a certain point. You’d spend a lot of time recreating the wheel vs. Innovating.
Thanks for the input!
Cool projects yes terrible corporate top down culture is an issue that only your manager/lead can shelter you from. You won't know how bad it is until you get in the job. The worst managers will flow it right down. The best managers will build you up, shield you, and make you feel like working your ars off. Mostly depends on how long they have been a manager but not always.
It really depends on the team, if you’re on phantom works or a special projects team you’ll have more fun. It not bad just boring at times but that said the wlb is terrific the comp is meh, unless you’re SW or Security engineer. I heard both are getting a comp bump to be more competitive.
I keep hearing that it's going to happen but it hasn't materialized yet!
They are for new hires especially with clearance. But it isn’t that much. Level 3 will be around 120/130 in Seattle but no stock iffy bonus and raise caps at 5%. So your total comp for the next 5years at least will be under 150 because moving from a level 3 to a level 4 is like trying to blow up a ballon the size of Drake’s mansion. You’ll get there eventually but you won’t have much left in the tank after.
If you have no jobs go for it, if you want low pay but somewhat okay benefits go for it. If you can handle heavy red tape and politics go for it. If you want to forget skills go for it. If you want to forget pay raises then go for it.
Unless aerospace is your dream and passion, or really can't get a job somewhere else, I'd really suggest going elsewhere. Honestly, WLB is probably the one good thing I can say, asking with decent enough benefits, but it comes at a price. Pay is very low, lots of red tape, hard work is repaid with more responsibility without proportional compensation (if any), tons of politics getting in the way. In general your personal daily experience really will depend on the team you're brought into, but even if you're in a nice little bubble you won't be able to escape the negatives forever.
There was a post yesterday how nobody wants to join Boeing.
I wasn't sure if that was meant to be a joke since the salary range for this position given the location seems to be reasonble.
