Applied seems to have a few graphics/frontend roles. Some ask for webGL/threejs as a nice to have on top of react, others are asking for react as a nice to have. I’ve been contributing to threejs and other webGL libraries for ten years, wrote articles and implemented a bunch of stuff at various startups and have been working with react for almost 8. I haven’t flunked a technical interview ever, and the few react challenges I was told I did fast. So on my end all of these roles seem to be a good match. But despite even putting a referral, they didn’t even want to talk, yet these ads are all still up. I got a lot of rejections this time around but this one really stings. I have had some shorter stints but it was all folding startups. I wonder if that is an immediate deal breaker and why it should be. In the past it was hard to find someone who is competent in both the web world and graphics, did that change?
The sad reality about Applied Intuition's hiring practices for software engineering is if your resume lacks pedigree (working/interning at FAANG, going to T20 school), the recruiters will reject you. Best chance would be to get in contact with the hiring manager directly.
Needs to be better than T20, from personal experience.
You might be right about that. Recruiting favors candidates from UC Berkeley, UCLA, MIT, Stanford, Caltech, etc. These are the profiles being targeted for new grad hires too.
Unfortunately, there are tons of incredibly talented folks that look better on paper (and thus a safer bet). The company has been very selective, and continues to filter aggressively. They shared some stats in an all hands, I can’t give out those exact numbers.
Applied has a high bar and in this market, they probably have a lot of applicants.
Still, there’s a thousand contributors to the library, I figured that would mean something. I know some places take graphics engineer expecting them to pick up the web stack quickly, but even those don’t grow on trees.
You do realize that recruiters are the ones looking at the applications right? They're not exactly Rhodes scholars lol. I highly doubt they have any idea about what the library even is, let alone who the contributors are.
