What companies in Seattle hire for applied science roles without expecting publications in top conferences, and have good WLB? Fb and Google have too high a bar. Twitter has data scientist and machine learning engineer roles but no applied scientist/researcher. Apple, Uber have those roles but not known for good WLB. Microsoft, Adobe probably check the boxes, but what are other options? I wouldn’t mind something in health/pharma domain YOE: 7 TC: 300k
This depends, are you an Amazon AS? If not it'll be a hard sell.
Yes, I’m AS
Whats the distinction between data science, ML roles and applied scientist? Applied science is more research based? I.e. publishing papers, writing open source packages? Fb has some roles called research data scientist that sometimes involve research work but are mostly applications of existing ML models. There's also some applied science roles on the enterprise engineering side (internal products) that may not have as high a bar as research scientist at FAIR for example
DS is analytics (product, infra, business etc) AS is developing / fine-tuning novel directly applicable models (some other companies call this DS - ML or sometimes just RS, for places like Uber they might have route optimisation roles in place of regular ML stuff) MLE is fine-tuning known models and implementing them RS is AS but with discovery work / research expectations
