Good for you Dartmouth, i guess this is progress but this would view student athletes as employees..hm wait... Dartmouth makes money via basketball? tl;dr "Dartmouth men's basketball team voted to join a local service employees union, marking the first public action by college athletes as employees of their school. This follows a ruling by the National Labor Relations Board that the players are employees. Dartmouth filed an appeal, disagreeing with this classification. The players hope to form a conferencewide collective bargaining unit. The NCAA maintains that college athletes aren't employees, but legal challenges persist. A case in Los Angeles could impact all college athletes' ability to unionize. Without federal intervention, schools may need to decide whether to treat athletes as employees or make changes to reduce control over them. The NLRB's definition of employment focuses on control and compensation, which includes benefits received by Dartmouth players." https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/39659611/dartmouth-hoops-players-vote-join-local-union #Sports
Such BS! I was a college athlete and school paid for my education, so I played a sport...it's that simple.
someone’s jealous 💀
And what if you get injured seriously and rest of your life is affected?
Once you know the true economics of NCAA sports you’d understand why it make sense for kids to be paid. Scholarships + gear + any other fees are usually already paid for by other methods before they even sell tickets. I played football and baseball at a large D1 from 2017-2019 and i love this for college athletes.
Cringe
Tell me you ain’t know jack shit about this context. And I’m against the idea of labor unions otherwise.
