IRS Warns Thousands of Taxpayers They Could Face Jail Time
I notice Indians are obsessed with Leetcode and nothing else, maybe in certain areas this isn't overall true but from my experience only Indian interviewers ask Leetcode questions, and ONLY leetcode questions. Western interviewers try to understand more about the candidate, their achievements, experience and their communication skills. Is this just a co-incidence for me?
I have had East/Southeast Asian interviewers as well who have cared far more about the person and culture fit. They'd rather have an individual with personality who can learn than a cold rote machine. Leetcode is a garbage way to select people - It's a good way to pick a lightswitch. There is so much more than memorizing crap to being a successful engineer.
Are your western interviewers hiring managers or senior engineers assessing culture fit? Then it makes sense to ask those questions. If they were technical interviewers, then I am afraid I have some bad news for you. Your performance in their rounds was probably so bad that they switched from technical to behavioral/background related questions as they didn’t know how to pass the time for the one hour slot.
What’s the size of your sample data?
Low, which is why I ask. I'm also not in US, I think all FAANG ask Leetcode over there.
I have done about 150 interviews in total, and I would say that I had about 10 to 20 interviews with Indian guys. From my experience, they are focusing mostly on hard skills, while others value both hard and soft ones.
LEETCODE is the universal language now.
It is NOT the interviewers, it is the company you apply for. Duh! Every company has guidelines (either explicit or implicit) and that decides what needs to be asked. I worked in the Midwest before, and nobody (Indian or otherwise) asked me a coding question, let alone an LC question.
Indian managers I’ve talked to have been really great with high EQ. Unfortunately I’ve had that experience with Indian SWE interviewers, I keep hoping it’s by chance but I keep getting more data points to back it up. Maybe American interviewers go easy on me because I’m white but they’ve historically been much more likely to help with the coding and look past only the coding to see about experiences and behaviorals. I’m unconventional and when I’ve interviewed with Indians they’re drilling me on technical knowledge with languages or CS concepts whereas Americans seem more accommodating to realize I can pick up the stuff quick. Sample size is about 30 interviews with ~80% Indian interviewers
I pretty sure only few care about race at that level. American interviewers may be nice but don’t assume they give top ratting on paper. They can still give top ratting to a Leetcode star. Basic Algo knowledge(most questions only need a handful of algos and we should be able to recognize Algo. Leetcode helps here) is a must no matter how smart the person is. Speed matters to impress(again Leetcode helps). Collaboration skills will give final touch.
No they can’t
oh man reading this thread i don’t feel like indian at all. can i get a shout out for all the lazy indian swe who’ve tried to embrace leetcode and failed?
I am an Indian I have given interview at Google twice, Facebook, Amazon and all these times interviewer were from UK or USA and all of them asked me questions from Leetcode. So may be you are right or may be not. Peace!
Where did you learn to say 'Peace'? Just curious.
