In the email from Amazon recruiter there is a link to the leadership principles and they expect me to exhibit those principles during the interview. At first I thought is some corporate bullshit, but they are serious about these principles. I don't know, it just feels weird to try to fit you in a behavioural template. Edit: who came with the idea of these principles at amazon anyway, Jeff bezos? Most of the other companies do not seem to have things like that.
They’re contradictory
The contradictions are intentional. The whole point is to apply certain ones contextually, and to have clarity on what LP to optimize for for the situation. Although a lot of it is subjective
They want you to have a story that exhibits one or more of these principles. Each interviewer will ask questions pertaining to one or more LPs. They won't tell you which one they are checking for. Later on, your manager will use one of the LPs to put you on PIP. Did you disagree and commit? You weren't earning trust when you disagreed. Did a task take a little longer than expected? Sounds like you aren't right, a lot or maybe you didn't dive deep enough.
+1 to above. you may have an answer for every LP your manager quotes against u, but not to “Earn Trust”. That’s like the nuclear bomb they can use in extreme cases.
I met a young Amazon employee who was quoting a lot of the corporate speak, “it’s always day one”, etc. definitely seemed brainwashed but otherwise seemingly nice person
It's cathartic to tell off Amazon recruiters with that jargon. "I heard you're making everyone go back to the office. That's some real Day Two thinking. I'm looking for a company that innovates."
I don’t interview at Amazon for that reason. They just want to hear people bullshit and color-paint their stories. I don’t want to be that kind of person and I don’t want to be working with that kind of person.
Bunch of BS principles, half the time they contradict each other, I guess these are just pip tools
Notice how none of the LPs really talk about respect or positive interpersonal behavior…
I’d like to see Jeff bezos apply some servant leadership principles to himself. Based on his stock gains from 2020-21, he could’ve given every Amazon employee a $105,000 bonus without reducing his net worth.
Yes to keep it simple.
Yes. It’s a cult.
Definitely I felt the same way. And some of the principles seem strange.. I feel like there are better things to include. Like “be frugal”.. lol
