Are big corporates like this everywhere or just @ Chase?

We have yearly scheduled rifs this year except for the month january and december. Last year we had 6 scheduled ones, this year increased to 8 as told my some ED Im wondering why mgmt keeps hiring when they know HR is going to request for RIFs months out My lob is super bloated with devs rn, our leads not even writing one line of code, theyre just doign a bunch of POCs that can ve found on Medium or devjournals 🤦‍♂️and we're scrambling for work and some sprints we're sharing stories and just fooling around taking long team lunches playing pingpong only to get rifed later on and has happened on my team. And we're laid off right away with no PIP whatsoever

Yep my experience at big corporate is the same. Usually the severance was good and you were given a month to “apply” to another internal job and potentially stay. I imagine banks wouldn’t do that part though.

Nobody knew the RIF schedule but it seemed like 4x a year or so. Often teams would get cut and you’d just never find out because they’re in a different business unit and are totally irrelevant to your work.

It's literally a hire to fire cycle repeating every year We didn't have enough stories to be refined but guess what, mgr kept adding a total of 8 new devs last year just to rif some this year
