Have you experienced at times that some interviewer is just trying to boost their ego by asking a tough question and doesn't even bother to provide you a hint.
Rarely. It’s a waste of time for them. They maybe using this technique for filtering out fast.
Interviewed with Apple and Linkedin they have been the worst ego wise ..oh and Github beats them both
This matches up with my experience at LinkedIn. Interviewers not showing up on time, not letting you finish, asking another question before you could finish the first.
Try "ever" instead of "always"

I don't think he is talking about bias, everyone has biases that's not news, I think the issue is interviewers with insecurities who want to prove how smart they are asking questions they most probably knew about them a couple of weeks before

They probably got those questions from someone else and they didn’t know how to answer it so they ask you to gauge if you’re better than them
I think that's a good possibility. I sat in on an interview where the other manager was asking the developer to explain what a certain mainframe abend code indicated... I figure he always asked that because it was something he personally found challenging at some time and it wasn't really a relevant question. We never had the guy work in the mainframe, too!
Got this question asked by Uber https://leetcode.com/problems/robot-room-cleaner/description/. How fair is this to be solved in 30 min if you haven’t seen before ? And if you don’t solve it and then you lost the chance. The interviewing style needs to be changed

I have been interviewing people for almost 10 years. Always in pairs, never alone. I can definitely say there is a huge chance in every interview. Younger interviewers tend to be those that expect the exact answer and only one correct solution. I have seen many of those. Companies usually educate against doing this but people are people. I also did definitely see trick questions (as in you need to know a very specific trick to answer it - especially under the time constraint you just physically won't have time to think about it). One of those types of questions can easily throw off a person from clear thinking and he/she will likely not do good for the rest interview. So luck is a big part of any interview, unfortunately. Nowadays, interview process is broken in general because the leetcode became a must - it is very unlikely for anyone to pass an interview unprepared. So the question is what are we testing ...a persons ability to think or to study?! The only reasonable explanation is that on average it is an approach that leads to better outcomes considering a confined to 45min-1hr interview.
