Are laid off xooglers blacklisted from getting rehired?

I was impacted by the big layoff at Google back in March. I recently applied to 3 positions with a referral. Despite meeting all the qualifications in the job description, the recruiter got back to me with rejections for all 3 positions. Can those impacted by layoffs not rejoin?

It could be depends on your previous performance review. I don’t know long you were at google before getting laid off. But generally speaking, there’s a law somewhere that you can’t rehire people you laid off and have to wait for 6 months. I’ll have to find that policy/law but I remembered it when I was at google as a recruiter

You can’t rehire people for the same positions that were laid off. They can be rehired for other positions.

So you can’t be rehired as a SWE if laid off as a SWE? Or you can’t be hired back in GCP but can be hired in Ads?

You probably never worked at Google because the big layoff was in Jan?

The news was released in January, but the layoff was effective in March

Maybe we arent hiring. Why are people obsessed with google? There are far better companies out there

ARM psaikris Sep 24, 2023

This could well be it, with a 1000 staffers fired last week maybe some of them forgot to deactivate their LinkedIn job postings or the corresponding staffer got fired and now it’s a ghost position

I agree with your last sentence. Unfortunately, none of those companies are hiring either

Not every laid off employee may be eligible for rehiring. Companies might use layoffs for disposing of under performers, top paid, or problematic employees, marking them as "no-rehire". Move on bro.

Humble yourself and move on. The company doesn’t represent you in life. If you feel it does, you are extremely misguided.

Many people have boomeranged so no, you are not blacklisted. But every boomerang is on a case by case basis. Given that they just laid off a lot of recruiters, I would guess that it is going to be harder.

Most of the positions you see are getting filled by internal transfers. Very little external hiring is happening right now and what is happening is largely in lower cost countries.

Are hiring a lot india ?

Google bbbyyyeee Dec 7, 2023

What about people who resigned. Do they have a grace period? And for how long

Google tGJv76 Dec 7, 2023

In the olden days, you could come back at same level within a year without an interview. AFAIK, that policy still applies, but the problem today will be finding an open position.
