Hey everyone We recently published a job post for a Marketing person. For context, we are literally a small fintech US-Based startup that launched 2 weeks ago. Like tons of people that apply from Snap, Meta, StockX, Kraken, etc. Lmao, we launched, we are cool, and we got a bunch of users, but come on. Is it really that bad right now? #layoff #faang #startup
It is the start of bad
There are thousands of H1B faang folks who have to get another job in 60 days. They can’t afford to be picky right now. They will take any job for visa sponsorship and then give time to find another better job
You think a startup that launched two weeks ago has an immigration department to process h1bs
Yes lol. They have a startup lawyer and that is one of the core services such law firms offer.
“Like tons of people that apply from Snap, Meta, StockX, Kraken, etc. Lmao” Jesus…..”lmao”
Some of the hottest places to work and you’re happy people lost jobs?
I can't say for sure if it's that bad, but one thing's for sure - I wouldn't hire anyone from any of those companies. You won't be necessarily getting the best candidates and they'll boomerang to some other large company once the economy starts to improve. Source: personal experience as well as conversations with said marketers.
It’s like hiring somebody from an Ivy. They’re going to cost twice as much and stay half as long. Google did a study on this- the elite school hires weren’t a reliable signal of worker quality. I imagine this is going to be the same kind of thing. Hiring somebody off a layoff for a salary that’s way higher than the rest of the team, but way lower than they expect, is a recipe for a bad outcome.
Never hired anyone from an Ivy, but I can see your point. It's already been demonstrated that the ones from the lower tier schools *and* the ones who had lower grades were the ones who ultimately were successful. Nowadays companies want people who will stay for longer than 12-18 months and not be used as a stepping stone for a boomerang in 2024. I understand that people need to do what's best for them, but if you're looking to join a company just to leave in a short period of time, take a job as a contractor -- at least you'll be intellectually honest and in some cases you may get benefits as well.
Only in tech.
There are tons and tons of jobs out there no one wants.

It’s really bad if you require FAANG TC, I think. Only a handful of places that pay like that and they’re not hiring. If you can survive like a starving animal on $200k you’ll be alright I think.
The average salary for a US-based software engineer is $120K. Experienced SWEs who work in industry do not make the oversized FAANG salaries; they earn closer to $135K-$175K.
200k is now slightly above homeless ?
