After Qualcomm are others next to follow I heard Synopsys cadence has layoffs and today’s earnings from asml pretty much said 2024 is not good for semiconductor may be intel and others report next weeks is @nvidia @amd hiring still ?#severance #layoff
Already done last year. Hoping for some good years ahead
2023 is the bottom. 2024 will be better.
Lol You know nothing
If the government keeps regulating innovation in the semiconductor industry (and they are) its going to get brutal. I expect many layoffs as non-US companies decide to buy semiconductors from China directly because there aren’t import or reexport restrictions. Biden’s economic policies are going to strangle the industry.
Have you heard of CCP's Debt trap? CCP threatening Taiwan? Uighurs getting tortured? China supporting Russia in Ukraine war? China needs to be reined in anyhow somehow. Semiconductor industry will have to go through a temporary blip for the sake of future of mankind.
7ytr4: dont spread fake news
What about the chips act? I thought semis are getting a huge influx of cash to onshore critical tech TSMC
Tbh chips act == 0
lol the chips act was a scam to bail Intel out. Why do you think Pat G was so involved in its signing..
Hard to say, most internal analysis says 2024 is a recovery but high interest rate means less investment . A lot of new fabs in China for their own stuff but that means a lot of companies can’t sell to them, asml being one, micron likely being impacted more in dram and nand as retaliation. Cloud spending is cut by a lot so hyperscale will be impacted. Let’s hope AI and ML will boost enough spending to save us.
they would have to, they hired too many people the last 3 years
They already did. Micron cut to the absolute possible limit. Severely cut wafer starts. Cancelled several products that were set for production. Many teams are so underhanded they have started to hire back some laid off people. Many engineers are doing the work of two-three engineers. Even if they wanted to cut more it would come close to shuttering the business level. The chip market is leveling out now and 2024 is expected to recover and trends are showing that. Intel also cut so much that they seem to be running on fumes lol. Fabless companies reliant on SWEs and design engineers were profitable while others were laying off so I'd expect layoffs to hit those places more. But might not given companies like NVIDIA and ASML had record profits while companies like Micron and Samsung were making losses.
