Real talk, do you think that the hiring bar was lowered or adjusted for the female developers you work with?
Don't feel that way. They are pretty smart, at least on my team.
Some of my best Engineers happen to be female. No, the bar was not lowered from them. And on average, atleast on my team, they have held their own against other engineers and at time exceeded others.
I was hoping for that so I could get in ( as a female dev ) but nope ! Sometimes I feel I can get to the interview easier but the internet questions are as hard. Just personal opinion. Once I got in a job, I usually have to work hard to prove that I am equally good. In some cases, my opinion is not taken as seriously as other male counterparts. But if I ask for help, I am more likely to get it ! YOE 10+ TC : donโt want to share.
Iโve seen more good hires than bad lowered bar hires. But the ratio doesnโt matter much, since everyone focuses on the bad cases, as they taint perception of all cases. Women are now looked at with a justified suspicion of lowered bar hiring, and the blame is on terrible sexist diversity hiring practices.
Second this. These clumsy attempts to bring diversity just made me numb to all sort of women-oriented events. I sometimes get comments that I've got through interview because I'm a female, but no one throws that comment to all my failed interviews. Not to mention all these women-oriented events. I was looking for some sort of fitness meetups at my company, and one of a few I found was yoga in park with a note that it's women only. I can hardly imagine if a similar men-only group would exist for longer than a week or so.

I think, by and large, the female devs I work with have had to be better than their male counterparts to get this far: in school, early careers, etc. Level-for-level, I think I'd trust them as much or more. I have the impression this is true of my product managers as well.
I've had multiple women working for me and with me at Tableau. All of them have been in the top tier of people I've worked with over the years.
I've generally found females in STEM to be smarter than the males in STEM.
Been pretty incredible. Haven't encountered any faked skill from any. Legendary at their craft.
Women engineers are super smart. Dont keep their brains in their pants, so super focused too.
Real talk. Female devs in my team are highly driven and competitive. But they are seasoned amazonians.
One seasoned Amazonian male developer said all the female engineers he had worked with were subpar and he believed thatโs true for all female engineers. I de-friended him.
