TL;DR bodyshop is probably easiest way to do it but maybe there are other places where you don’t have to solve LC? Read further if interested in some random crap about me and another guy. For example, I know you can try EPAM a few times (could take 2-3 years because of lottery) and I think they don’t even ask LC (correct me if I’m wrong). I have an acquaintance that moved to US on EPAM’s H1B back in 2020 and then just started interviewing with FAANG, then got the offer 3 months after H1B start date from Facebook and transferred visa, paid the relocation costs to previous employer and got $300K TC in the end. Back then remote interviewing was a myth and it was difficult to schedule interviews with someone who’s outside of US. I wonder if it’s different now. I even managed to meet Google engineer remotely back in December 2021 but failed the very first interview. Sure, he had 700 solved on LC (and I still have like 30 after all these years) but I’d rather be living poor in US with GC coming in 3-5 years than spending a ton of time procrastinating on LC living in comfort zone. Maybe if I move to US I can finally pull myself together? #workvisa #h1b #epam TC: $72K (got $250 bonus recently for being a good doggie dog) YoE: 9
One of those posts where you read till the end and lose track of whatever the fuck the question was with all those tangential stories. Voted for the option with the word “idiot”.
I’m terribly sorry. I have no friends that I can share my pain with (afraid of sharing it with co-workers, and literally have no one interested in programming and moving to US) so I use socials to leak my thoughts all over random people. And even my gf is mad at me because I can’t pull myself together for 3 consecutive years, while I keep promising her that we’ll move to a better country one day and I’ll start crunching LC… Thank you for understanding.
I was being too harsh. Good luck.
Given the 20% chance of being picked up in the lottery, amd the long wait times, companies almost never sponsor H1B for those already not working for them. This is either someone in a foreign office or in the US on a a visa like F1 OPT, L1, H4 EAD, O1 etc.
So that means the only true way into US is through the European subdivision? Everyone is going to Germany/UK and after 1 year just transfer to US on L1?
Yeah. Thats the most likely path. And the company will most likely take the L1 route vs the H1B route as there are no numerical caps there
