What are the best arguments against unions? From a 10,000 foot standpoint, unions give employees the power to fight for what they are worth. While competition makes up for part of this fight, unions fill in the rest. #amazon #meta #google #microsoft
Imagine what would happen if there was a software engineer union
You mean SAP?
Unions are why it's almost impossible to fire a bad teacher or a bad cop. Having salaries based purely on tenure rather than performance (which is a common feature of unions) is stupid and promotes mediocrity.
Highly skilled people like software engineers don't need unions, raising the compensation ceiling as an individual is much easier than as a group. For lower skilled jobs like retail or warehouse it makes a lot more sense.
Unions suck. I was in a union. I came to IT to get away from union's. They're just another cartel by another name. Folks over at Germany have a union. Look at SAP. Lol
It gives employees economies of scale in negotiating with employers.
Lol 😆
Blind and levels.fyi are the SW version of unions
I’m all for unions across all types of jobs if it means job security. In general I believe unions work for the masses, and the few try hards who complain about mediocrity can suck it. Let the rest of us do an average job and spend more time enjoying life, rather than stressing and competing over nothing.
We have job security just not at the same place all the time, but that mobility is what enables high pay. If you want European style wlb just work for a European or Canadian company. People literally immigrate here to compete for riches.

Innovative companies dont have unions
The vast majority of companies do not innovate.
I'd call boeing innovative, and we've got unions. Heck, I'm unionized as an engineer. The company deservedly gets a bad rap but it's still quite innovative
