By law companies have to negotiate layoffs with unions, which leads to seeing all the financials of the company, negotiating the number, reduce the chance it happens by surprise without union members' knowledge, and set clauses on prioritizing re-hiring union members who were laid off when the company starts hiring again. And before ppl say it depresses wages, unionizing does not depress wages. The avg non-union worker makes 81% what union workers make as of 2019: https://www.bls.gov/opub/ted/2020/nonunion-workers-had-weekly-earnings-81-percent-of-union-members-in-2019.htm
Unions eliminate performance based rewards. It's all about rolling in to do the minimum required.
What ever will we do without artificial scarcity metrics
performance based rewards are already bullshit. Does unomas actually think that life is fair and people are ACTUALLY paid for performance and not blowing their boss?
I’d vote for a union but I’m not unhappy enough to bother organizing
There are many roles in organizing a union! Good organizers make direct action easily doable & who knows, maybe you'd find something you enjoy!

Entitled tech workers wanting to unionize 😂😂
Yeah fuck those entitled ppl who want things like "job security" 🥴
If you want job security there are plenty of industries like defense or govt roles for that. Entitled folks wants high pay from big tech + job security. Can’t have it both ways buddy.
No, I cannot be more likely than I am now - I’d vote for a union as soon as I can. Alas, tech workers have overinflated egos and little common sense.
This comment made no sense whatsoever
Most tech workers believe that they can negotiate better as a single entity vs collective bargaining.
Another cope post lmao. It's like every hour with these. Unions don't prevent layoffs. You just won't get work anymore and unions do it all the time. You'll call your union and ask for work, suddenly, there is no work. But you can't work for any non-union companies otherwise you're a scab and you'll never get union work again. So let's just say you hypothetically work for Microsoft. You'd probably switch to hourly, which in fairness would be more money. However, they would just decide to not use you for work if they wanted to get rid of you. There's nothing you can do about it either unless you go outside of the union. That's the biggest part you guys miss. Unions can't guarantee hours.
Why you don’t just go to a company that already has a union? Then you can just join it and benefit.
How many tech companies have unions? Thought so.
You can join a traditional company as SWE. For example, UPS has a union. Federal agencies have unions. And to answer your question, here is the list of tech companies with unions: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unionization_in_the_tech_sector#Recent_US_Tech_Worker_Unions_and_Union-Organization_by_Company
Question is, ok to cut salary in half? Better move to Canada or Germany
Commies keep trying with these “feel the water” posts 😂
Commies are the literal utopian entitled dogs. They want the best of utopia without the shit that goes with it. They want unions but not the wages ie 90k / year like it is in the EU
My answer is, I never wanna work with my friends (and their coworkers) who are in the union.
Once the union is in place u don’t have to work any more
Yes. My friends in unions don't work. @Eng j5fGL7ck They know they ain't getting fired so play online games instead of working. also messaging me up to the point i have to tell them, stfu stop bothering me while I am working

Is "From the River to the Sea" So Wrong?
Unions can impact who gets laid off, not whether layoffs will happen or how many people will be laid off.
They can negotiate the number absolutely. Whoever told you that is wrong
Can you show me an example of a unionized tech company where the union negotiated the number of layoffs that were allowed?
