Ford and VW thinks self driving trucks are more feasible ? Might affect future funding for ArgoAI ? https://www.cnn.com/2022/07/08/business/argo-ai-ford-vw-layoffs/index.html """ Many of Argo AI's competitors, including Alphabet's Waymo and Toyota-backed Aurora, have already chosen to focus more on self-driving trucks, which industry experts say are much easier to build than robotaxis. The self-driving industry, including Argo AI, have learned that it's a tall order to teach a vehicle to safely navigate a bustling city, with construction sites, pedestrians, cyclists and emergency vehicles. Trucks, on the other hand, mostly stick to highways. """ #argoai #argo #ford #volkswagen #automotive #tesla #nvidia #cruiseautomation #cruise #aurora #waymo #zoox
Self-driving is so many years away from reality that it is a joke. There are problems in rainy days, snow, bad asphalt. There are problems even with the vapor coming out of manholes in cold days! (That at times gives to infrared sensors the same signal as a person). Again we have the problem of data: repeatedly testing in the same streets in Arizona won’t help when the car has to drive under a snowfall in Detroit. The industry should focus on assisted driving and stop the nonsense of self-driving that is disappointing customers.
This. I don’t know why so many people thought computer vision and AI could solve this problem alone. We really need significant infra to make semi-autonomous driving safe.
You obviously haven’t heard of the guy from Tesla that has been selling FSD vapor ware for years now
DC and funding is a separate problem, at least according to our leadership
DC was more to do with city regulations making it difficult/impossible to make launch plans there
I have heard discussions about dropping DC almost a year ago.
In the past week have already seen an incident of Cruise facing multiple taxi stall in a particular street and also a crash in SF causing injury. I guess Zoox and Cruise will suffer next.
Not sure if you are part of AV industry but your assessment is way off. No major AV industry is going to suffer- similar to how Tesla is not suffering after layoffs, Coinbase is not suffering after layoff etc The incident you mentioned above are one offs till now - sure there could be similar incidents in the future but if industries starting abounding tech the moment they face the first issue, the entire tech industry wouldn't exist Nobody promised AV's will take over the world by 2022 and investors who invested understand the challenges and ROI
I need some help with Cruise, can I dm you?
I personally think for self driving cars to be ubiquitous, smart cities need to arise. Without smart infrastructure support, it's quite difficult for software to figure out all the corner cases.
I agree with this.
I also agree. Expensive sensors should be part of the smart city infra, not on top of every car.
Ford is in a huge loss and can't bail out
Lol
lol
Why is Tesla making so much more gains compared to these companies?
Are they?
If you mean more gains as in Elon lying to people to the point people trust it fully and then it drives itself into a highway median and kills the driver, sure
Pls delete the first article it has a lot of misleading and incorrect statements e.g. "Argo AI was founded by former Google engineer Anthony Levandowski and entrepreneur Lior Ron."
Done
First article was absolutely word salad. Definitely robo writer. I've never seen anything like that.
