Hi colleagues, I got an offer from argo.ai. It looks nice, but it is not common in a sense that they are LLC and instead of stock/options they give profit interest. Although they declare goal to go public, it seems like LLC is not suitable for this (need to pay money to convert LLC into a corp). I feel that it would be a subsidiary of Ford forever. Then what is the meaning of those "units"? Help! Anyone has experience this Argo as well?
It’s not a subsidiary of ford. The profit interest is actually better than getting options or RSUs, because they are taxed at capital gains rate and there is no strike price.
Thank you. Does LLC looks like they do not have a plan to go IPO really? How I take advantage of those "units"?
You can ask them all these questions. I got an offer there and dug into how the equity worked. My takeaway was that it was a very good way of doing equity, although it’s not as immediately obvious how it works because most people haven’t heard of it.
Will you mind sharing any of your offer details, eg base, bonus, etc? I also heard their RSUs/equity is a bit non standard and probably there was another thread on this in Blind. Thanks!
Self driving cars company are at least 10+ years away from making profit. In next 3 to 5 years, self driving cars will come out slowly in few cities. It will take time for adoption and acceptance from public. Few issues will come up that needs to be resolved. Then after 8 to 10+ years mass production will start. At that staged companies will make profit.
Did you end up taking the job? What is your experience?
They are worthless
