Argument for SWE to stay

There’s a lot of doom and gloom over ChatGPT and how this is going to revolutionize the world and everything. I remember the same craziness for IoT, 5G, Blockchain, fintech and now Web3. I wanted to hear people’s thoughts on why they think software engineering jobs will stick around for the next 40-50 years ? I definitely expect the jobs functions to change, I still don’t think we will be completely replaced. Companies might need fewer SWEs in the long run the same could be said about ML/AI engineers if AI really does become so advanced. TC: $350K

People love to be dramatic. Every major innovation in history had the potential to eliminate many jobs, and yet jobs simply changed rather than leaving mass unemployment. SWE is no different, the role will change and nobody can predict exactly how. There will always be those that cry that we're all doomed, but in the end they're not more accurate in their predictions than Mayans or climate alarmists.

Get into embedded and ChatGPT will never replace you 😉 ChatGPT can only code upto Arduino level but it doesn't know shit about cortex ARM or FPGA or DSP programming.. 😂

As if it can’t learn all that too.

As if ChatGPT can read datasheet, reference manual, schematics, and can play with GPIO, TIMERS, SYSTICK, IRQ, RTOS, UART, CAN, I2C, SPI, USART, PCIe, USB, etc 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Always be a triple player. Software+hardware+RF no one can kick you out or replace you nor will you ever get laid off. Very niche skills. Everyone can do iOS, android, websites, cloud, etc etc but not everyone can do embedded and RF.
