What does Amazon recruiter do if you ask for a TC that is too high? Do they just give best offer they can? Do they say "oop we can't go that high" ?
Amazon recruiters and hiring managers are incentivized to close hires, not to lowball you. Know the comp band for your role and level and location, courtesy of Blind. Then ask for 10% above the top of band. Negotiate down to top of band if needed. Realize that at Amazon, what you negotiate is generally what you get for 4 years or until you get promoted. There will be no meaningful raises or RSU grants unless you make a level up. Even then, you will likely get nothing until you then rank as a TT (top tier) at the new level. So only take an Amazon offer if it is unreasonably higher than your current comp - at least 30-50%.

Go too high and theyâll cut their losses. It isnât in their best interest to court someone who will decline their offer. They are scored on how many people hey can successfully place, so of course theyâd rather spend time on a fish that is likely to bite.
Never seen someone rejected because their initial number is too high. Chances are they will come back and tell you those numbers are a little high and if there is any room. I think you should Google and read about how to negotiate
You canât be too high as long as itâs in band. With someone like amazon, their bands are well known.

There is no typical behavior. Iâve seen it play out in many different ways. Itâs a huge company with many orgs and teams, many of which operate differently from each other. Only way to find out is through your specific recruiter.
