Hi all, I’ve started at Apple SEG 1.5 years ago and this month I had my first ACR. My initial offer was: Base: 138K Sign-on: 35K RSU: 100K ACR: 48K RSUs refresher, 8K cash bonus, +4K base. So my current TC is 200K, 145k unvested RSUs Got an offer from WDC - Technologist position: Base: 165K Sign-on: 30K RSU: 100K Target bonus: min 20% annually (33K) Target RSU: 30K - 40K Making it 228K guaranteed minimum. Some questions to the audience: How is Technologist level compared to ICT3? If I switch, I “lose” like ~ 45K invested RSUs, but WDC can’t go higher so the numbers are final. In Apple I was lowballed and when I even tried to negotiate back then, the recruiter said “We don’t want people that are driven by money”, so I didn’t really have a chance to improve the offer. May Apple go higher with the numbers given I really intend to switch? My group is good and I like my job, but I was left absolutely unsatisfied with the review (6/9) after a year and a half of very intensive work (also on holidays and during weekends). Responsibilities offered at Western Digital are higher and the job is more inspiring (ramp up of new design from scratch), but it’s not the top-tier company, though the compensation is higher. They are also ok with only one day at the office. What do you think, dear audience. Sorry if it was too long. YOE: 10 #apple #westerndigital

Just want to mention that “Target bonus: min 20% annually (33K)” is not guaranteed, not min. It’s the target only. It could be 0%-40%(0 to 2x target) depends on the company financial performance and your performance. There is chance that you get nothing…

In WD the only warranty is the base salary. Bonus and RSU depend on company performance and your boss.
Your initial offer at Apple was definitely a low ball, considering your experience. HR will say shit but ultimately we don’t do charity. Apple HRs have this very toxic way of negotiating! Very unprofessional! About your new offer- It’s a very small change your TC. I would definitely wait and interview more. My rule of thumb is don’t move unless there is 20% change in TC. Even if you hate your job and WLB at Apple, i would wait as I feel for 11 yeo this another low ball offer. About your review this year- It’s a standard practice at SEG Apple. Most of them get 6/9 in the first year review. I got the same first year. Your rating and comp goes up with more years at Apple. But it obviously come with more slogging and worse WLB. If you haven’t interviewed with nvidia yet do give it a try. They do not muck around with low ball offers.

You only reveal external offer if you are 100% ready to walk out in case Apple doesn't match offer. Apple to WDC sounds like a huge downgrade to me. If you are desperate to get out of Apple, Apply for FB, Nvidia, Google and Microsoft, they are all hiring. Or Talk with your Apple manager to work towards IC4 promo
