Atlassian layoffs

This is the right way to do layoffs. The blog post brings a humanised approach to this delicate matter. It’s quite clear in terms of what is going to happen too. https://www.atlassian.com/blog/announcements/atlassian-team-update-march-2023

I don’t understand.. how different is Atlassian from other companies? All companies have been offering the same benefits!!

Atlassian uJEz88 Mar 11, 2023

Its not. The fact that it was so secretive about it. Even saying that we will be hiring more and also asking managers to assure teams that they will not layoff anyone just a month back makes it as inhumane as possible. This absolutely shows company only cares about optics and not employees

OP this is for you!

Just a well written blog post is not going to make a difference for people who were let go

Better than others, but when it’s the trend to do layoffs, I am not sure there are any good companies here.

They just giving them a day more of access. Other big techs have done something similar, right? What’s the major difference?

Lesson learned from this layoff: every doofus company that says "we're still hiring strong!!!11" while other companies are laying off will be laying off just as heavily in the near future. 100% of the time

Weren't these idiots bragging on twitter or something less than 6 months ago about still "going strong" with hiring when others were laying off? "Full Responsbility"

Google WHQLdriver Mar 9, 2023

They were bragging on blind too. I applied there as practice and never heard from them except from a recruiter several months later who sent a form letter to everyone saying Atlassian was being very transparent and reprioritizing open roles.

I did an interview there and they downleveled me (as I've heard they typically do). I put them on ice and got an offer from current company. I came back with my counter and they suddenly felt like my performance was on par for the level I interviewed at. I asked her for the specific feedback, and it was all _very_ much leaning towards the higher level, with one off comments like "X skill demonstrates lower level, but there's more signaling higher level". Essentially, she was just BSing and negging me to downrank me the entire time. Obviously took the offer with current company. Scummy company, scummy recruiters, apparently scummy leadership. Slow as dirt. They seem to be the quintessential: "Signal super hard, do the same thing as every other company" gang. Definitely not a fan any more.
